Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 15, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how HomeCanon ("we", "us") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the HomeCanon mobile application (the "App"). HomeCanon helps homeowners track appliances, warranties, and recurring home maintenance. We designed HomeCanon to collect only what's needed to run the product and to be transparent about every third party that touches your data.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not run any third-party advertising, tracking, or data brokers in the App. The iOS privacy manifest in our build (NSPrivacyTracking: false) reflects this: no SDK in HomeCanon tracks you across apps or websites.
1. Information we collect
1.1 Information you provide
- Email address — used to send sign-in links and to identify your account. We never share or sell your email.
- Household name, timezone, and (optionally) address — used to schedule reminders in your local timezone and label your household in the App. Address is optional; if you skip it, we default reminders to your timezone alone.
- Appliance details, maintenance schedules, warranties, and documents you upload — the core product data. Stored encrypted at rest on our database provider's infrastructure.
- Invitation tokens — when you invite a household member, the share link contains a one-time token tied to your household. Recipients who tap the link can join the household once, and the token becomes invalid.
1.2 Information generated by the App
- Push notification tokens — issued by Apple Push Notification Service (APNs) on iOS or Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) on Android via the Expo Push service, then stored alongside your account so we can send maintenance reminders. We delete the token whenever the device reports it is no longer valid.
- Subscription state — when you purchase a HomeCanon subscription via Apple App Store or Google Play, RevenueCat (see §3) notifies our servers of the active entitlement tier (free, pro, in-trial). We do not receive or store your payment-method details.
- Crash and error reports — when the App crashes or hits an unhandled error, an anonymized report is sent to Sentry (see §3). The report includes the stack trace, app version, and OS version. It does not include the contents of your appliances, warranties, documents, or email address.
- Product analytics events — anonymous events like "appliance added", "task completed", or "paywall viewed" are sent to PostHog (see §3) so we can understand how the App is used. You can opt out at any time in Settings → Privacy. Analytics events are never linked to your email address.
2. How we use information
- To provide the App's core functionality (sign-in, household management, appliance tracking, push reminders, subscription gating).
- To send transactional emails (sign-in magic links).
- To diagnose and fix crashes, bugs, and performance issues.
- To understand which features are used and how to improve them.
- To comply with legal obligations (e.g., responding to lawful requests, enforcing our Terms).
3. Third-party service providers
We rely on these vendors to run the App. Each receives only the information needed for its specific role:
| Service | What it sees | Purpose | |---|---|---| | Supabase | Email, household data, appliances, warranties, documents, push tokens, subscription state | Database, authentication, file storage, push delivery orchestration | | RevenueCat | Pseudonymous user ID, subscription product ID, purchase + renewal events | Subscription management for App Store and Google Play purchases | | Apple / Google | Payment details, App Store / Play account | Processes your subscription purchase. HomeCanon never sees your payment information. | | Expo Push Service | Push token + reminder payload (appliance name, schedule title) | Routes push notifications to APNs (iOS) and FCM (Android) | | Sentry | Stack traces, app version, OS version, breadcrumb of recent actions (no PII payloads) | Crash reporting and error monitoring (only when enabled in the build) | | PostHog | Anonymous event names + numeric counts. Pseudonymous user ID when signed in. | Product analytics (only when enabled in the build; you can opt out in Settings → Privacy) |
We do not use third-party advertising networks, social-network SDKs, identity-resolution services, or data brokers in the App.
4. How long we keep your data
- Account data: retained while your account is active and for up to 30 days after deletion to support backups and account recovery, after which it is permanently deleted from production systems. Encrypted backups may retain copies for up to 90 days before they age out.
- Crash reports: retained by Sentry for 30 days.
- Analytics events: retained by PostHog for 12 months by default.
- Subscription history: retained as long as required by Apple / Google billing rules and applicable tax law.
5. Your rights
You can:
- Access, export, or correct your data by emailing us at support@homecanon.com.
- Delete your account from Settings → Account → Delete account. Account deletion is irreversible and removes household data permanently after the 30-day grace window described above.
- Opt out of product analytics in Settings → Privacy.
- Disable push notifications system-wide in iOS or Android Settings, or pause specific schedules in the App's notification preferences.
Residents of the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and California have additional rights under GDPR, UK GDPR, and CCPA respectively, including the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. Contact support@homecanon.com to exercise these rights.
6. Children's privacy
HomeCanon is not directed to children under 13 (or 16 in the EEA). We do not knowingly collect information from children. If we learn that we have collected information from a child, we will delete it.
7. International transfers
Our service providers process data in the United States and the European Union. Where transfers are needed, we rely on standard contractual clauses with each provider.
8. Changes to this policy
We will update this page when our practices change and bump the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will be surfaced in the App.
